The Practice: Before opening your laptop, phone, or email tomorrow morning, sit for 90 seconds.
Just sit. Feel the weight of your body in the chair. Notice that you exist independent of your output. Why it works: When we rush straight into work, we signal to our nervous system that the demands are more important than the human. This creates a cortisol loop that lasts all day. 90 seconds breaks the loop. It creates a tiny wedge of space between "waking up" and "serving others."
