Hello Reader,Each week, I share one insight, one prompt, and a short grounding practice to help you grow with AI in alignment, not overwhelm. This is for conscious entrepreneurs who value substance over shortcuts. AI Insight That Matters π‘The Verb Is the PhilosophySam Altman published five principles for OpenAI last week. Five short paragraphs, the sort of corporate values document most people scroll past. I read it twice. The second principle says AI should "empower everyone." Read that sentence the way a copywriter reads a sales page. Empower puts the AI in the active position. The AI is the one doing. The human is the one being acted upon. The grammar tells you who has the power. I sat with that single verb for ten minutes. Because the Human-First standard I have been teaching for three years rests on the opposite verb. Not empower. Amplify. Empower says: I will give you what you do not have. Amplify says: I will multiply what is already there. That is not a small distinction. It changes who is the source of every conversation, every decision you make alongside the tool. Empowerment puts the human in the receptive position. Amplification puts the human in the generative position. One says the AI is the thing. The other says you are the thing, and the AI is the megaphone. Look at how this lands inside a business. A team taught to be empowered by AI waits for the prompt that unlocks the answer. A team taught to amplify with AI brings their thinking and uses the tool to widen its reach. Same tool. Two completely different cultures. You can spot the difference on any sales page in thirty seconds. Read the verbs. "AI takes this off your plate." "AI handles your inbox." "AI generates your strategy." Every one of those is empowerment language. The AI is the actor. You disappear. Now read the same page with amplification verbs in your head. "AI extends your thinking." "AI carries your voice further." "AI runs the patterns you already trust." You stay on the page. You stay the source. The verb is the philosophy. It is also the architecture. Choose it deliberately, or it chooses for you. I ran my own audit this week. Fed Claude every line of public copy across three of my websites and asked it to flag empowerment verbs against amplification ones. The result was uncomfortable. I had drifted in two places I would not have caught unaided. The text is being rewritten as you read this. AI Prompt That Works β¨The Verb AuditRun this on a page you are about to publish, a slide deck, a product description, an internal memo, or a job description. The Prompt: I want to audit the verbs in this piece of copy for the philosophy they encode about humans and AI.β
Here is the copy:[PASTE COPY]β
Run this audit:1. Highlight every sentence where AI is the active subject (e.g., "AI handles X", "AI takes this off your plate", "AI does Y for you"). Label these EMPOWERMENT.2. Highlight every sentence where the human is the active subject and AI extends the action (e.g., "You write, AI multiplies", "Your thinking, scaled"). Label these AMPLIFICATION.3. Rewrite each EMPOWERMENT sentence in AMPLIFICATION form without losing the practical meaning. Keep the rewrite tight.4. Tell me which sentences refused to translate. Those are the places the underlying offer is empowerment, not amplification. Flag them so I can decide whether to keep them or change the offer.β
Do not soften the audit. Most people find one or two sentences that refuse to translate. That is the diagnostic. Either rewrite the page or change the underlying promise. Grounding Practice β―The Source PracticeSit still for one minute. Bring to mind one task you handed to AI this week. A draft, a reply, a summary, a piece of research. Now ask: where did the substance come from? Was it your noticing, your pattern, your relationship with the work? Or did you wait for the tool to fill an empty page? Notice your answer in your body. Not as a verdict. As information. The body knows the difference between sourcing and outsourcing. The mind explains. The body reports. Stay there for one more breath. Then come back. Personal Note β€οΈβπ₯
βDonβt explain your philosophy. Embody it.β - Epictetus I caught myself complaining about Claude on Tuesday morning. The model felt slow. I was waiting for an output to land before I could move on. Then I noticed what I was doing while I waited. I was writing in my journal. Half a page of thinking I would not have caught otherwise. The agent in the background was working through what would have eaten an hour of my morning. The wait gave me the gift of attention and presence. The agent runs while I write. The advantage is human thinking on top of background machinery. AI does while you think and dream. That is my hope for the future of humanity in the AI era. π¬ Go DeeperLatest from the blog: Why Obsidian Is the AI-Era Second Brainβ The thinking system underneath everything.
